Specifications

When operating brake coils fitted to SEW helical gear motors, varistors play a vital role in mitigating destructive switching overvoltages triggered by frequent switching actions within the disc brake’s DC circuit. All original brake control systems supplied by SEW‑EURODRIVE are pre‑installed with varistors as standard factory configuration to suppress such voltage spikes out of the box.

For safe switching of brake coils, you must select contactors that meet or exceed utilization category AC3, fully compliant with EN 60947‑4‑1 requirements. It is highly recommended to add dedicated suppressor circuits directly onto your switching hardware to further improve system stability.

In compliance with EN 60204 standard for electrical equipment of machinery, motor windings need proper interference suppression hardware. This protective measure shields numerical control units and programmable logic controllers from electrical disturbance. Most interference originates from regular switching operations, hence external suppressor circuits on switching devices are strongly suggested for long‑term stable performance.

Multiple motor thermal protection configurations are available for different working scenarios: no thermal protection, limited motor protection which needs practical on‑site verification, and complete thermal protection. Valid protection components cover temperature sensor (TF), bimetallic switch (TH), and protective circuit breaker. This gear motor handles continuous operation at load boundaries, sustained slight overload up to 200 % IN, heavy‑duty startup conditions, as well as motor‑blocked working scenarios for harsh industrial applications.
